Niagara Falls, Goldstream

Directions: In the south bound lane as you head to Victoria over the Malahat on the Trans-Canada highway, there is a gravel parking lot that starts a 5 minute walk to pretty impressive cascade. For those who have travelled the Malahat in the past, the parking lot is located just before you reach the concrete parking lot to Goldstream Provincial Park and is accessible only in the south bound lane. For those who are new to this area, search Golden Falls Parking in google maps and you will get an approximate location. Slow down as you approach your destination as there is not a pull out and traffic can get tight on these narrow winding roads.

Trail: The trail to Niagara Falls is a little over 5 minutes and is fairly easy for most skill levels. You head out of the parking lot up some stairs and follow a the rocky decline to your right. There are a few obstacles (large rocks) you need to get around to get up to the water follow but they are easy to navigate.

More Information: Scattered through the lush temperate rainforest in this area there are many relics left from the gold rush of 1863. One of these relics is easily accessible from a trail close the the falls called the Gold Mine Trail. This 2.2 mile trail will lead you to a mine shaft that was in operation as Canada was still in its infant stages coming together as a country.

Bonus: There is no official access between the east and west sides of gold stream park. In the summer when the creek bed is dry, or if you always keep a knee high pair gum boots like me and the water of Niagara Creek isn’t rushing you are able to access the falls from the east side through a a large culvert under the highway. This tunnel is located to the north of the concrete parking lot in the north bound lane down the up the Niagara Creek on the Visitor Center Trail.
